Bar Admissions

The deadline to register for the February 2023 bar exam is September 1, 2022. The late registration deadline is November 1, 2022. No applications will be accepted after November 1, 2022.

The recently passed Rule IV, Section 8, Re-Examination in Excess of Three, limiting the number of times an applicant may take the Mississippi Bar Examination to three (before being required to undertake additional legal education) is effective January 1, 2020.

All Mississippi Bar Examinations taken and failed as of that date are included and count towards the “three attempts” rule. In other words, an applicant who has previously taken and failed two Mississippi Bar Examinations prior to January 1, 2020 will be permitted to take the exam once more before being required to undertake further legal education. Those who have taken and failed the examination on three or more occasions prior to January 1, 2020 must comply with the additional legal education requirements prior to their re-application to the examination.

The Mississippi Bar hosts a Bar Admissions ceremony in the spring and fall. (Note: The Mississippi Bar is a separate agency from the Mississippi Board of Bar Admissions and any questions regarding the Bar Admissions ceremony need to be directed to The Mississippi Bar.) Dates and locations of each ceremony may be found at the following link:

All applications must be completed online. (Please note that personal or business checks are not accepted.) Money orders or cashier‘s checks are to be made payable to the MS Board of Bar Admissions and must be submitted at the time you file your application.

LAPTOP TESTING is available for the MS Bar Examination. There is an additional fee for applicants who wish to use their laptop to type their answers to the Essays and Performance Test during the administration of the MS Bar Examination. This fee is payable directly to ExamSoft. The fee is currently $113.00, but may be subject to change. A notice with instructions will be sent to each applicant who completes and submits an Examination Application and Form 8-B Laptop User Release. Applicants will be provided with instructions on registration of their laptop, steps to download Examplify, and then take and upload a mock exam. Applicants who have not registered with Examplify and completed the Mock Exam within the deadline established will not be allowed to use their laptop computer for that examination and will be required to hand write their answers.

The MS Board of Bar Admissions does not refund any fees. Applicants whose application is, either voluntarily or involuntarily, dismissed will automatically forfeit all previously paid fees.
