Paper versions of our applications are no longer available. There is a $25.00 charge to use the online version for any of the applications listed below. You will be required to submit the $25.00 fee in addition to your application fee(s). Personal or business checks are not accepted. Cashier checks or money orders are to be made payable to the “MS Board of Bar Admissions” and must be submitted at the time you file your application. When applications are hand delivered, payment may be made in cash; however, it must be the EXACT amount as this office does not keep money to make change.
There are four separate links pertaining to applications and forms with which you can use your computer to complete. Please read all instructions carefully on our website. It is each applicant’s responsibility to make sure their application is completed in a timely manner. If an applicant does not complete their application within the time prescribed, their application may be dismissed. Our office does not refund fees. The applicant will forfeit those funds if their application is dismissed. The four application links are listed in the upper right hand corner of our website page and are as follows:
Application for Registration as a Law Student This link will take you to the Law Student Application and Instructions. The application and filing fee is to be filed on or before October 1st, immediately following completion of two (2) semesters of law school, or the equivalent thereof. Any person who does not comply with the October 1st deadline shall be permitted to file a late law student application upon payment of a late registration fee; however, the completed application must be filed with the Board on or before March 1st preceding the February examination deadline, or on or before August 1st preceding the July examination filing deadline of which the applicant proposes to sit.
July 2010 Bar Examination Application This link will take you to the July 2010 Bar Exam application and instructions for applicants who are filing an Application for the first time in Mississippi. This could mean a graduating law student who did not file a Law Student Application after their first two semesters of Law School, or applicants from other jurisdictions who do not qualify for Admission on Motion and wish to be licensed to practice law in Mississippi.
July 2010 Application Update Complete this form if you have previously filed an application with the Mississippi Board of Bar Admissions, e.g. Law Student or Exam Application. Please read the instructions included with the Application Update to see if you qualify to use it. Complete the Application Update if:
| |
1. |
You filed an Application for Registration as a Law Student and are now updating that application to sit for the JULY 2010 Bar Examination; or |
| |
2. |
You previously filed an application with this office to sit for the Mississippi Bar Exam and were unsuccessful on the bar exam. You want to apply to re-take the Bar Exam in JULY
2010; or |
| |
3. |
You filed an application to sit for the FEBRUARY 2010 Bar Exam and requested a deferment to the JULY 2010 Bar Exam. You either want to apply to sit for the JULY 2010 Bar Exam or defer your application to the FEBRUARY 2011 Bar Exam. |
Forms and Information about Accommodations is a link to each of the forms listed in all of the applications that you may be required to complete, as well as an index card and information about testing accommodation requests. Once you complete the requisite forms, you must print them off, have the appropriate pages notarized, and submit them to the Board of Bar Admissions with the
applicable fee(s).
Admission on Motion Application This link will take you to the Admission on Motion Instructions and Application, as well as a link that lists all the jurisdictions with which Mississippi has reciprocity and whether or not a valid Multistate Professional Responsibility Exam (MPRE) score is required for Admission on Motion. A minimum of 4 months or more must be allowed for processing applications.
Upon completion of investigation by the Board and its Committee on Character and Fitness, the Board shall act upon such application not later than its next regularly scheduled meeting forwarding receipt of the final report of the committee on Character and Fitness on such application. Eligibility for Admission on Motion in Mississippi is restricted to those who have practiced not less than five (5) years in a jurisdiction(s) that accept(s) Mississippi attorneys for admission without
examination.
Please note: Review the list of jurisdiction(s) to ensure reciprocity exists with Mississippi. Applicants should review the rules of their jurisdiction pertaining to admission on motion. If the reciprocal jurisdiction’s rules are more stringent or exacting or contain other limitations, restrictions or conditions of admission, the admission of the applicant shall be governed by such rules. If you are licensed in
more than one jurisdiction, the Board will determine which state(s) where the majority of your practice has been conducted in order to determine if you are eligible for admission on motion.
Persons who file an Admission on Motion application, but who are not eligible to do so, may transfer the application to the next scheduled bar exam or withdraw the application and forfeit all fees paid.
The National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) has developed and released an MBE study aid that they are calling the Multistate Bar Examination - Annotated Preview (MBE-AP).
The MBE-AP is designed to be delivered online. It consists of 100 questions drawn from recent actual MBEs, representing the same content distribution as is seen on a full-length MBE. In addition to the questions, both the correct and incorrect options have been annotated to provide guidance to examinees who are preparing to take the MBE. Finally, the test includes a scoring component that will, to a limited degree, allow examinees to gauge their overall performance and their relative performance in each of the six MBE content areas.
The MBE-AP is available through NCBE’s website. The specific link is http://www.ncbex.org/mbe-ap/. The charge for a subscription is $26, with each subscription lasting through the MBE test administration that follows purchase; that is, someone purchasing the subscription today would have the use of the MBE-AP until the morning that the MBE is administered in late February. Subscriptions purchased following that test administration will remain active until the next test administration in late July. While the subscription is active, examinees may take the MBE-AP as often as they wish.
The test may be taken in a timed three-hour sitting, simulating an actual MBE administration, or on a question-by-question basis so that the examinee may consider the annotated answers in close proximity to reading the test question. After the exam is taken once, an examinee may choose to take the entire exam again or to retake only the questions that were answered incorrectly. The National Conference of Bar Examiners expects that in addition to using the MBE-AP to gain experience and familiarity with the MBE multiple-choice format, many examinees will also use it as a
learning tool for substantive content.
The National Conference of Bar Examiners has priced the MBE-AP to ensure its accessibility to all bar examination candidates, particularly those who may lack the means to pay for expensive bar review courses. If the MBE-AP is received as well as the National Conference of Bar Examiners hopes it will be, they expect to develop other editions in the future.
The NCBE has released an online Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE) practice examination. This study aid, called the MPRE Online Practice Exam 1 (MPRE-OPE 1), is available on the NCBE website, www.ncbex.org. It consists of 60 items and is therefore the same length as an actual MPRE. NCBE has developed this practice test in order to make high-quality, authentic MPRE test materials available to bar examinees at a nominal cost. Each online practice exam is priced at $24.00 for a one-year subscription that allows unlimited use of the online product bythe candidate.
The MPRE-OPE 1 is comprised of questions previously appearing on actual MPREs. Some questions have been reworked to reflect current MPRE drafting style. The MPRE-OPE 1 includes annotations that explain the reason that each of the four multiple-choice options is correct or incorrect. |
